Hiking Stats:
Distance: 0.6 miles roundtrip (to the falls and back)
Difficulty: Easy
Length of time: 20 minutes out and back (depending how many times you stop to take photos or break)
Elevation Gain: 150 Ft.
Cliff notes: Parking is right beside the trail head. You’ll follow the easy to see path ahead, and it’ll bring you to the river. You’ll continue to follow the river until you see a fork in the trail. If you go to the left and climb up, it’ll take you to the top of the falls. Bring tennis shoes, the climbing part can be slippery if muddy. If you go to the right of the fork, you’ll follow along the river to the falls and see them from the bottom.
Where is Moss Glen Falls located?
Moss Glen Falls is located on the outskirts of Stowe, Vermont. From the historic village of Stowe, take route 100 North 3 miles and bear right onto Randolph Road. The first road on the right is Moss Glen Falls Road. Proceed about a half-mile to a small parking area on the left.
The google maps location can be found here at the address 369-615 Moss Glen Falls Rd, Stowe, VT 05672 and will take you to the trailhead.
How long is the hike?
The hike takes about 20 minutes round trip if you don’t stop for very long. We spent about an hour in this location because we took photos and videos!
What can I expect to see?
You can expect to see on Moss Glen Falls:
Wooden walkway throughout the trail
Pieces of wood that beavers have bitten into (lol)
Shallow river
Beautiful, cascading waterfall
Small steep incline to the top of the waterfall
Check out my YouTube video for a visual of what to expect 🙂
What to wear?
I would suggest wearing water-proof boots or hiking tennis shoes! I wore a comfy sweater, blanket scarf, leggings, and a fall hat!
Be sure to shop my fall outfits on my Like To Know It! You can click on each post and find the products that I wore!
Is it dangerous?
There are three ways I could see this as possibly being dangerous…
The first way is if you lose your footing while climbing the incline going to the top of the waterfall. I thought it was pretty easy getting up, but there are loose rocks and tree roots that are sticking out, so be careful climbing up.
The second way is if you decide to cross the river and go to the base of the waterfall. There’s a steep incline of rocks along the way and it could be easy to slip in. Even if you did, the river is very slow moving and super shallow (like 1 ft deep) so you would survive, but maybe get scraped up.
The third way is if you decide to go beyond the wire that is there at the top of the waterfall to help people not to fall over the cliff where the waterfall is. I stood in front of the wire, and just photoshopped out some of it in my photos and it turned out really beautiful! However, if you aren’t using your thinking skills and decide to lift the wire, it could turn out very bad and I would suggest you not to do that.
Overall, I would say this hike is very safe. I saw families taking their small children and babies up to see the waterfall 🙂
Should I add this to my list of things to see in Vermont?
Yes! You should add this to your list of things to do in Stowe! Even if you’re on a roadtrip just passing by and have one day, this is the perfect quick, safe and easy hike with a great payoff!
